Research -to- Action Groups

Currently, ZAMFOHR has four Research to Action Groups(RAGs). These include:

Mental Health

The overall burden of mental health and its risk factors in Zambia is not known. As such, it is difficult to elaborate and quantify clear priorities, and measure their impact. There stillexists a high level of stigma against overt forms of mental illness by communities, and even health workers management practices are wanting. It was for this reason that ZAMFOHR developed this RAG to review the mental health policy in Zambia.

Human Resources for Health

The Global Health Research Initiative has funded this project and it will run for three years(starting 2010). This research project addresses a high priority issue in Zambia --a Human Reseources for Health Research (HRH) crisis with constraints in both the size and deployment of its workforce. Past and current strategies to resolve these constraints have focused primarily on increasing numbers of health care providers and on shifting tasks to other workers in an effort to meet health care needs and to alleviate overburdened health care providers. Without in-depth evaluation and analysis of these strategies, it is not possible to determine which strategies are the best investments. This project aims to evaluate existing HRH retention and recruitment strategies in two rural pilot districts of Zambia (Gwembe and Chibombo) in terms of their impact on health care workers and the health care system.

E-learning for Health

Though there is a great deal of health research that is produced within Zambia, information is not widely applied in decision-making and everyday activities in health. This breach between the conduction and application of research is referred to as the “know-do gap”. Today, health research information is readily available online, with countless available resources such as free databases, web sites and search engines. However, the “know-do gap” still remains a problem, as many people within Zambia’s health community lack access and essential skills in information technology. For this reason, ZAMFOHR has developed this RAG to address the above mentioned issues. Read More

Reproductive Health

The Reproductive Health RAG was established recently and it is still working on the work plan. The RAG will also collaborate with the Ministry of Health to address the reproductive issues in Zambia
