Objectives

a) To evaluate current health worker retention and recruitment strategies in Gwembe and Chibombo districts in terms of their impact, if any, on health, provider, and system outcomes; and

b)  To access the alignment of existing health worker competencies with the health needs of the people of Gwembe and Chibombo.

Ressearch Questions:

1)  What formal informal strategies have been implemented to retain and recruit health care workers in rural Zambia?
2)  What are the provider, system and outcomes resulting from retention and recruitment strategies in rural Zambia?
3)  What are the most pressing health care needs of people leaving in rural Zambia?
4)  What are the health care competencies  required to meet the most pressing health needs of people living in rural Zambia?
5)  What are the current competencies of health care workers in rural Zambia?
6)  What are the current compositions of health care teams in rural Zambia?
7)  What strategies have been or are currently being used to provide health care to people living in rural Zambia (e.g. 'skillin up', task shifting, changes to team compositions, deployment)?
